Panelists discussed Operation Dragoon, the Allied invasion of Southern France during World War II on August 15, 1944. It was a controversial operation as U.S. and British military planners did not agree on the objectives. Ultimately the operation successfully helped liberate occupied France. This program was part of a formal 65th anniversary commemoration of Operation Dragoon, the first every held for what scholars and historians often refer to as the forgotten D-Day.

During the first part of the program foreign dignitaries spoke and the U.S. Army Freedom Team Salute delivered commendations. Then a roundtable discussion was held by historians. These events were held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in the Fort Myer Officers Club Ballroom. close
