Andrea Batista Schlesinger talked about her book The Death of "Why?": The Decline of Questioning and the Future of Democracy (Berrett-Koehler Publishers; July 1, 2009). She argues that although questioning is the cornerstone of democracy, Americans are being trained to look for easy answers. But Ms. Schlesinger highlights places across the country where people are trying to keep students curious and engaged. Ms. Schlesinger also responded to questions from members of the audience.

Ms. Schlesinger is currently on leave as the executive director of the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy while she is serving as a policy adviser on the re-election campaign of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. close
