President Obama addressed the the 110th National Convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. In his remarks he praised U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan, and thanked veterans. He reiterated his commitment to increasing Veterans Administration health care, promising that health care reform will not affect veterans' health care. He pledged to adapt the military to fight the missions of the future, moving beyond a Cold War mentality, and to eliminate waste from the defense budget, stating, “If Congress sends me a defense bill loaded with a bunch of pork, I will veto it.” close
