Eagles and Empire David Clary talked about his book Eagles and Empire: The United States, Mexico, and the Struggle for a Continent (Bantam; July 28, 2009). In his book Mr. Clary presents a history of the Mexican-American War. He utilizes Mexican and American documents to present each country’s reasons for partaking in the confrontation and profiles the key participants, including American President William Polk and Mexican General and President Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna. lMr. Clary talked about the roots of the long struggle between the two countries and the culminating war, which did not end a struggle which still continues. He responded to questions from members of the audience.

This event was held on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at 2 p.m. MT by the Roswell Public Library in Roswell, New Mexico.

David Clary is the author of Adopted Son: Washington, Lafayette, and the Friendship That Saved the Revolution. He is the former chief historian of the U.S. Forest Service. close
