Andrew Rice talked about his book The Teeth May Smile but the Heart Does Not Forget (Metropolitan Books; May 26, 2009). In his book he investigates the history of Uganda, the legacy of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin, and the process of reconciliation, through the story of Duncan Laki, whose father, a local chief, was murdered there in 1972. The trial 30 years later of Idi Amin’s second-in-command, Major General Yusuf Gowon, allowed the people of Uganda to confront their past. Mr. Rice read passages of his book and then discussed them with Mr. Palatella. He then responded to questions from members of the audience.
