Eugene Zeigler talked about his book When Conscience and Power Meet: A Memoir (University of South Carolina Press; September 15, 2008). He recounts some of the challenges of his career of public service in the state legislature. In 1972 he attempted to secure the Senate seat of Senator Strom Thurmond and in 1974 the Democratic gubernatorial candidacy. He talked about politicians maintaining integrity.

Former State Senator Zeigler was interviewed by the C-SPAN Civics Bus crew while at the South Carolina Book Festival, which was held in the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia, S.C., from Friday, February 27 through Sunday, March 1, 2009.
