On Tuesday, September 8, 2009, Chief Justice Roberts, as had become traditional, walked Associate Justice Sotomayor down the steps of the U.S. Supreme Court after her investiture ceremony. She was then joined in the photography opportunity by members of her family.
On Wednesday, September 9, 2009, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral argument in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. The court originally heard arguments of this case in March 2009 and asked the attorneys involved to provide additional briefs. The Court held this rehearing in a special session before the official start of the term on Monday, October 5, 2009. It was the first oral argument heard by Justice Sotomayor.
