They Dared Return Military historian Patrick K. O’Donnell talked about his book They Dared Return: The True Story of Jewish Spies Behind the Lines in Nazi Germany (Da Capo Press; October 13, 2009). He used recently declassified files, private documents, and personal interviews to tell the story of Jewish refugee sent on a covert operation deep into the heavily fortified area of Austria’s “Alpine Redoubt,” where Hitler planned to make his last stand. He was joined by the commander of Operation Greenup, former Sergeant Frederick Mayer. They talked about the achievements of the group and the dangers overcome.

They were interviewed at the 32nd Annual National Press Club Book Fair and Authors' Night, a fundraiser for the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library held Tuesday, November 17, 2009 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. close
