The Arizona Historical Foundation held a conference “Goldwater at 100: His Politics, Ideology and Legacy,” November 13, 2009, at University Club of Arizona State University. Barry Goldwater (1909-1998) was a five-term United States senator from Arizona (1953-1965, 1969-1987) and the Republican Party’s nominee for president in the 1964 election. Opening remarks were made about the Arizona Historical Foundation and the Goldwater papers. In the opening keynote address Robert Alan Goldberg spoke about scholarship, history, and memory, focusing on Senator Goldwater’s 1964 presidential election. He responded to questions from members of the audience.
