The Arizona Historical Foundation held a conference “Goldwater at 100: His Politics, Ideology and Legacy,” November 13, 2009, at University Club of Arizona State University. Barry Goldwater (1909-1998) was a five-term United States senator from Arizona (1953-1965, 1969-1987) and the Republican Party’s nominee for president in the 1964 election. The first afternoon panel, “The Goldwater Moment,” examined Senator Goldwater’s political rise and failed presidential campaign. Each panelist presented a paper, sometimes accompanied by slides. Then the panelists responded to questions from members of the audience. Robert Alan Goldberg moderated. close
