General McChrystal said in his remarks that the additional troops would give the U.S. “credibility in the minds of Afghans who demand proof not only that we want to protect them but that we can.” They also talked about their expectations for success in enhancing security in the region and bringing more credibility to the political process. Additionally General McChrystal said that either killing or capturing Osama bin Laden would be a symbolic victory that could help defeat al-Qaida.
