Chandler Saint, co-director with David Richardon of the Documenting Venture Smith Project, made opening remarks at a two-day conference centered on interdisciplinary study of the life of Venture Smith (1729-1805). Venture Smith was a slave who purchased his freedom and went on to become a successful businessman and property owner before the Revolutionary War. Mr. Saint showed slides as he talked about the life of Venture Smith and the Documenting Venture Smith Project.

The annual conference “Documenting Venture Smith: The Story of a Struggle for Democracy” was held at the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection headquarters in Hartford. close
