Witnesses testified on President Obama’s proposal to impose restrictions on the size and scope of financial firms to rein in excessive risk taking and to protect taxpayers. The proposals had been coined the “Volcker Rule” by President Obama. In his remarks, Mr. Volcker said hedge funds and private equity firms needed to stand on their own, without any promise or expectation that the government would bail them out. close
