Roy Morris recalls Samuel Clemens transformation from an unemployed riverboat pilot in Mississippi into celebrated writer Mark Twain. Mr. Morris reports that Clemens was invited west to Nevada territory by his brother, Orion in 1861 and what followed was a stagecoach expedition from St. Joseph, Missouri to Virgina City, Nevada that led to six years of travel that found Clemens/Twain spending significant time in San Francisco and Hawaii . The author details Samuel Clemens arduous trip west, which included near duels and gunfights to marriage advice from Brigham Young and the publication of Mark Twain’s The Celebrated Jumping Frogs of Calaveras County. Roy Morris discusses his book at Book Passage Bookstore in Corte Madera, California. close
