Navy Secretary Ray Mabus spoke about U.S. naval operations and challenges facing the service. One day after the ban prohibiting women from serving aboard submarines expired without formal objection from Congress, he outlined ways in which the Navy would begin integrating women on both missile carrying and attack submarines. He also talked about other issues facing the service such as improving weapons platforms, energy efficiency efforts, and naval operations associated with an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. He responded to questions submitted from the audience. close
