White House historian William Seale talked about the actual plans for a White House that was never built and the circumstances and personalities surrounding the un-built presidential building. Before architect James Hoban was selected to design the White House, George Washington hired Pierre Charles L’Enfant to design and build an executive mansion as well as the capital cit. L’Enfant envisioned a palatial home much larger than the current building. Mr. Seale showed slides during his presentation and then responded to questions from members of the audience.
