Before architect James Hoban was selected to design the White House, George Washington hired Pierre Charles L’Enfant to design and build an executive mansion as well as the capital cit. L’Enfant envisioned a palatial home much larger than the current building. Mr. Seale showed slides during his presentation and then responded to questions from members of the audience.
This lecture, titled “Once Upon a Palace,” was held in celebration of National Historic Preservation month by the L’Enfant Trust in the Carriage House of the Decatur House on Lafayette Square.
