Witnesses testified about the circumstances surrounding the ongoing spill of crude oil from the well site in the Gulf of Mexico. Officials continued their testimony on the federal response to the oil spill, the scope of the environmental threat, and regulatory oversight issues. They were followed by environmental experts who testified about the scope of the environmental threat to business interests and natural habitats. They also criticized the responsible companies for keeping too much information from the public and called for more federal control of the cleanup efforts. close
