Japanese Prime Minister spoke to reporters and answered questions in his first news conference as prime minister. He pledged to honor the U.S.-Japan agreement to keep a U.S. base on the island of Okinawa, and to tackle Japan’s financial problems. The former finance minister became the 5th prime minister in four years after the sudden resignation of Yukio Hatoyamo, who was forced to step down for failing to deliver on a key campaign promise to relocate the U.S. air base. close
