Treasury Secretayr Geithner testified about the status of the $700 billion Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP). In his remarks he said that banks had repaid about 75 percent of the bailout money they received, and he expressed confidence in recovering the cost of the bailout. He also acknowledged that a partial loss is likely from the rescue of insurer American International Group and said the prospects that General Motors and Chrysler will repay nearly $60 billion in bailout money had improved. close
