He recalled his pioneering work on the space shuttle program and his experience as a veteran of four flights who logged over 565 hours in space, orbited the earth 374 times, and traveled over 9.4 million miles. The pilot of the first space shuttle mission, he also flew aboard both the Challenger and Columbia shuttles, which were later lost in flight. He described his reaction to the Challenger disaster, and his role in the investigation that followed.

Robert Crippen talked about his life and career as a NASA astronaut and as director of both the space shuttle program and of the Kennedy Space Center.
