Stephen Bertone testified at the July 19 hearing of the U.S. Coast Guard and Bureau of Energy Management joint investigation of the April 20, 2010, Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. Mr. Bertone, who was aboard the rig the night of the explosion, said that the rig experienced blackouts, computer problems, and equipment problems prior to the explosion. He would not answer questions regarding his initial testimony given to the Coast Guard shortly after the explosion, or respond to allegations that Transocean bypassed some of the alarm systems. close
