Defense Secretary Robert Gates spoke to reporters and answered questions on the military budget. In his remarks he laid out plans to cut the number of private contractors employed by the Pentagon, reduce senior officers, and eliminate agencies he views as unnecessary. Secretary Gates said the changes are necessary in order ensure a stable Pentagon budget in the future. close
