Former Ambassador Christopher Hill spoke about the future of Iraq and the U.S mission in the country as the August 31, 2010 deadline for the end of combat operations approached. He focused on challenges facing the State Department as it assumed responsibility for the mission, saying that things were “going in the right direction.” Among the topics he addressed were security challenges, continued political instability, sectarian tensions, and the cost of the new mission in Iraq.
