Witnesses testified about the status of the Social Security program and other forms of retirement savings. They focused on reports that found that 27 percent of workers had less than $1,000 in savings or investments, and 54 percent of workers had household savings of less than $25,000. They also talked about the inadequacy of many 401k retirement plans, raising the retirement age for Social Security benefits, and raising Social Security income caps. close
