The New Nobility
Andrei Soldatov and Irina Borogan talked about the reinvention of the KGB as the KSB during the rule of Vladimir Putin. The authors argued that the FSB is effectively more powerful than its predecessor and has been deployed against domestic political opponents in Russia. They noted that the “new nobility” lacks any parliamentary oversight and are not publicly accountable. They spoke at the New America Foundation in Washington, D.C., and responded to questions from members of the audience. Mr. Hoffman moderated. close
