Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne reported on a series of major cuts in spending, saying that the government would cut 83 billion pounds by 2015. Some of the key points in the spending review included raising the retirement age from 65 to 66 by 2020, as well as cutting 500,000 public sector jobs in the next five years. Following his response, opposition spokesman for the treasury Alan Johnson criticized the proposed cuts. Later, members questioned the chancellor on the spending review. close
