Moynihan in the White House

Prior to his career in the United States Senate, Daniel Patrick Moynihan (1927-2003) worked in four presidential administrations. He served in the Nixon administration from 1969-71 as an adviser on urban affairs. His legacy has received renewed attention following the release of his papers by the National Archives. Four members of Daniel Moynihan’s White House staff discussed his relations with President Nixon and their collaborations on welfare reform, education policy, and other issues. The session was moderated by Mr. Weisman, editor of Daniel Patrick Moynihan: A Portrait in Letters of an American Visionary. The panelists also responded to questions from members of the audience.
