Charles Kupchan looks at how nations escape geopolitical competition and replace hostility with friendship. He argues that diplomacy, not economic interdependence, is the currency of peace and that concessions and strategic accommodation promote the mutual trust needed to build a stable world. In his talk Professor Kupchan outlined cases where enemies have become allies and evaluated the Obama administration’s diplomatic strategies. Topics included the impact of diplomatic leaks and the current political situation. He responded to questions from members of the audience.

“Enemies Into Friends: How Peace Breaks Out” was an event hosted by the Naples Council on World Affairs at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church’s Kiney Hall in Naples, Florida. close
