Judge Vaughn Walker spoke about the history of cameras in the courtroom. He focused on precedents set by the Ninth Circuit over the past 20 years, reaction to several highly publicized trials, as well as his consideration of televised coverage of Perry v. Schwarzenegger. Judge Walker authorized Internet broadcast of arguments in the case before the U.S. District Court and was later overturned by the Ninth Circuit and the Supreme Court. The case involved a constitutional challenge to California’s Proposition 8 which changed the state constitution to disallow same sex marriage. close
