The leaders of Ireland’s three major political parties met in their final television debate before the general election on February 25, 2011. The moderator was RTE’s Miriam O’Callaghan. Outgoing Prime Minister Brian Cowen recently resigned as leader of Fianna Fail, and the party was doing poorly in the polls due to Ireland’s economic problems. Ireland received a financial rescue package from the European Union and International Monetary Fund. close
