Witnesses testified about potential connections between “clusters” of cancer, birth defects and other diseases, and contaminants in the surrounding environment. At least 42 disease clusters had occurred in 13 U.S. states since 1976, according to a report by the Natural Resources Defense Council that also called for further study of the cause of these health problems. close
