Keith Hall testified about March’s employment report. The nation’s unemployment rate fell to 8.8 percent in March and the U.S. added 216,000 jobs overall. The rate fell from February’s 8.9 percent, the fourth straight decrease. The private sector accounted for all the new jobs in March, adding 230,000 positions after a 240,000 increase in February. Government employment fell 14,000, declining for a fifth straight month as local governments let go 15,000 workers. Job gains occurred in professional and business services, health care, leisure and hospitality, and mining while employment in manufacturing continued to trend upwards. close
