Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi talked about three brothers who grew up during the reign of the shah and through the revolution. One was a soldier in the shah’s army, one was a member of the leading socialist party in Iran, and the third was a supporter of the revolution. Ms. Edadi also responded to questions from members of the audience. Her remarks were translated consecutively by an interpreter on stage.

“Iran after the Revolution” was the keynote address of the Institute for Middle East Studies annual conference on the theme “Iran in Transition.” Held at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., the conference was co-sponsored by The Project on Middle East Political Science, The Middle East Policy Forum, and the Elliott School of International Affairs. close
