Adam Goodheart, a Civil War columnist for The New York Times, recounts the first year of the Civil War in 1861. The author examines the revolutionary fervor that ran through the nation prior to the start of the war and the momentum that led to the early clashes. Adam Goodheart discussed the beginning of the Civil War with Richard Beeman and responded to questions from members of the audience. April 12, 2011, marked the 150th anniversary of the start of the Civil War. This program at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia on April 13, 2011, was held in partnership with the Rutgers-Camden School of Law’s conference “The Constitution and the Sectional Conflict” the previous day. close
