David Stokes recounted the murder trial of the Reverend J. Frank Norris in 1927. Considered one of the leading fundamentalist voices of his time, J. Frank Norris preached at the First Baptist Church of Fort Worth, Texas, whose congregation numbered over 100,000 and, according to the author, was considered America’s first “mega church.” On July 17, 1926, Norris shot and killed an unarmed man in his church office. David Stokes reported on the ensuing trial that engaged the nation. David Stokes responded to questions from members of the audience at BookPeople Bookstore in Austin, Texas. close
