Witnesses testified about the food and humanitarian crisis in the Horn of Africa. They focused on the impact of a severe drought in Somalia and the plight of refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya. Over 12 million people were in need of food according to the U.N. They also said that relief efforts in Somalia had been complicated by the fact that al-Qaida aligned group al-Shabaab controlled key parts of the country. close
