Senator Daniel Inouye, a Medal of Honor recipient who served with the famed all-volunteer, Japanese American 442nd Regimental Combat Team, was the keynote speaker at the dedication and grand opening of the Interpretive Learning Center at the site of the Heart Mountain Relocation Center, where Japanese Americans were forcibly detained during World War II. Also speaking were former Secretary Norman Mineta and former Senator Alan Simpson, honorary co-chairs of the advisory council. The lifelong friends met at Heart Mountain through the Boy Scouts when Secretary Mineta was incarcerated there with his family. close
