Defense Department officials testified about corruption in contracting by the U.S. military in Afghanistan. Gary Motsek said that the U.S. could not eliminate contracting corruption in Afghanistan, only reduce it. Witnesses focused on contracts with Host Nation Trucking in Afghanistan and an internal Defense Department report indicating that $360 million had gone to warlords and insurgents. Another recent report by the Commission on Wartime Contracting showed $60 billion was lost to waste and fraud over the past decade in Afghanistan and Iraq. close
