Panelists talked about how social media had fundamentally changed news gathering, particularly giving rise to the citizen journalist. They talked about growing use of sites like Twitter or Facebook had drawn consumers away from traditional broadcast and print sources of news. Eyder Peralta noted that Twitter and Facebook allowed people to get information on their own timetable, and said that traditional media needed to find a way to adapt to not just social media, but the change in society as a whole.
