The subcommittee held a hearing on the rising costs of higher education and potential ways to reduce tuition and fees. Representatives Virginia Foxx, the subcommittee chair, and Ruben Hinojosa, the ranking member, spoke about some of the causes of tuition increases and the problem of increased student loan debt. Witnesses testified about potential ways for colleges to cut costs, including reforming employee benefits, helping students graduate early, and using lower-cost methods of heating and cooling buildings. close
