Energy Efficiency Initiative for Public and Private Buildings President Obama joined former President Bill Clinton at the Transwestern building in Washington, D.C, to announce a $4 billion initiative improving the energy efficiency of government and private-sector buildings. The proposal calls for $2 billion in upgrades for federal buildings over the next two years with a goal of improving energy performance 20 percent by 2020. A coalition of corporations, labor unions, universities and local governments provide an additional $2 billion. President Obama said the program will help create jobs, save money and cut down on pollution calling it a “trifecta.” close
