1861 Review: The Grand Review Adam Goodheart, author of 1861: The Civil War Awakening, talked about the roles of General George B. McClellan and Julia Ward Howe in the November 20, 1861, “Grand Review” of some 70,000 Union soldiers at Bailey’s Crossroads, Virginia. He was interviewed at their portraits in a Civil War exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery.
