Assistant Dean Elaine Smyth displayed “The "Bloody Book” in the rare book collection in the Hill Memorial Library at Louisiana State University. She speculated about the belief that this book was being held by Jean Paul Marat, an activist during the French Revolution, when he was assassinated in 1793, which resulted in what appear to be blood splatters on the book. The book was collected for its descriptions of discoveries in the Americas.

C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2011 LCV Cities Tour” in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on November 27-December 2 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Working with the Cox Communications local cable affiliate, they visited literary and historic sites where local historians, authors, and civic leaders were interviewed. The history segments air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments air on BookTV on C-SPAN2. close
