Frank Newport talked about the latest Gallup poll that found the percentage of Americans identifying themselves as political independents increased to 40 percent, the highest Gallup has ever measured. He also discussed the demographics of independent voters, including their voting patterns, views toward the two major parties and government overall, and the question of a need for a third political party. He responded to telephone calls and electronic communications.
