Panelists discussed war crimes tribunals, both past and present, and if the legal infrastructure the world’s leading democracies have struggled to establish since the Nuremberg trials of 1945-46 is finally able to hold accountable those responsible for genocide, ethnic cleansing, and crimes against humanity. They also responded to questions from members of the audience. Mr. Abramowitz moderated.

William Shawcross is a founding member of the Article 19 and the International Crisis Group. His father, Lord Hartley Shawcross, served as lead prosecutor for Great Britain during the Nuremberg Trials. A clip was shown of him at Nuremberg. David Scheffer participated in establishing the International Criminal Court when he served as United States ambassador-at-large for War Crimes Issues. He also participated in the creation of the war crimes tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda.
