State and Defense Department officials gave an update on the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty between the U.S. and Russia. They focused on the pace of the treaty’s implementation and the future of the strategic nuclear reductions process. On February 5, 2011 the new START Treaty went into force. It called for reducing U.S. and Russian nuclear arsenals by 1/3 and allows 18 on-site inspections by each side per year. They responded to questions from the audience. close
