Defense Secretary Leon Panetta held a town hall meeting with about 1,300 soldiers from the 3rd Infantry Division’s 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team. He thanked the infantry for their courageous work in serving their country. He then addressed the issue of misconduct and several high-profile episodes of misconduct by some troops in Afghanistan, saying the incidents not only discredited the entire armed forces, but also damaged America’s chances for battlefield success. He also talked about partnership agreement signed by Presidents Obama and Karzai on the ongoing withdrawal of U.S. troops in Afghanistan. close
