The House Armed Services Committee met to mark up the fiscal year 2013 National Defense Authorization Act. The bill would authorize $554 billion for the Defense Department and national security programs, and $88 billion for overseas contingency operations. Among the topics they addressed were the detainee situation at Guantánamo Bay, U.S. relations with Pakistan and Iran, funding for missile defense, the impact of automatic defense cuts, and the acquisition of weapons.
