Michael Long presents a collection of over 150 letters from civil rights leader, Bayard Rustin (1912-1987), who was an organizer of the 1963 March on Washington, an adviser to Martin Luther King, Jr., and an openly gay man. Mr. Rustin’s letters cover over forty years of his life and the correspondents include the likes of Roy Wilkins, Eleanor Holmes Norton, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Michael Long was interviewed on stage by Mila Rosenthal, and then responded to questions from members of the audience. Khalil Gibran Muhammad, moderated this event, which was part of the new “Word Rapport” series at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in New York City. close
