Secretary of State Hillary Clinton released the 2011 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices, which examines the status of human rights in countries around the world. She said 2011 had been both a “tumultuous and momentous” year as she spoke about recent developments in human rights in Burma and Egyptians voting in their first free presidential election. She also denounced Syria’s government calling the Assad regime an “assault on the very lives of its citizens” and noting that the Syrian people “know they deserve a better.” Michael Posner took questions from reporters following Secretary Clinton’s remarks. close
